A new poll surveyed by the National Journal has found that most Republicans believe same-sex marriage should be avoided.
According to the study, 56% believed avoidance of the issue would work best for the GOP’s goals. This is much larger than the 37% that believed the same in 2009.
Still, 30% oppose it and feel the party should openly oppose it as well (50% in previous polls).
Only 14% support marriage equality, but this is still better than the 8% in 2009.
Democrats were also surveyed, and they held 84% in agreement of their party supporting marriage equality.
The realization of true equality seems to be growing across the Republican board, but it’s obviously still a struggle.
Also, avoiding the issue isn’t going to help anything. If you do nothing, things will only remain the same, and right now that means no equality for most LGBT Americans.
When it comes time for the states to vote on it, or if the magical day ever comes for the Senate to vote, a stance will need to be taken. Avoiding the subject is just a less aggressive opposition if you ask us.
We have a crazy idea. If the GOP let up on their strict social code and focused more on the fiscal issues they pride themselves on, they might cultivate a better following.
We’re just sayin!
