New Year, new Nick Viall. At least, that’s his plan…
The Bachelor alum has kicked off 2025 by focusing on his health. Of course, that’s a sentiment many of us share with weight loss goals and fitness resolutions and all kinds of stuff like that. But unlike the rest of us, who attack these goals with normal activities like heading to the gym or trying to get more sleep, Nick went all in on… a water fast! Yes, really! And this one is SO EXTREME!!!

On Thursday’s brand-new episode of the Viall Files podcast, the 44-year-old reality TV veteran admitted to his fans and co-hosts that he hadn’t eaten in 36 hours as of the show’s recording time:
“I haven’t eaten in 36 hours, so that’s fun. I started a water fast. I’m not recommending it to anyone [and] this is not some sort of, ‘Do this with me.”
That’s right! Just water. And NOTHING else! Viall said he first heard about the idea from his own mother, who told him it was “supposed to be really healthy.” He then expounded on some of the supposed benefits to going without anything but water for days on end:
“It’s supposed to reduce your chance of cancer, it’s supposed to be good for inflammation, it’s supposed to reduce your chance of Alzheimer’s and things like that. It’s supposed to have a lot of health benefits to occasionally fast.”
Hmmm…
Viall said that he’s going to do this fast for four full days, too. So, if he was 36 hours into it by the time the podcast was recorded, he’s got about 2.5 more days to go. That’s a freakin’ eternity!! Especially when he was very forthright on the ep about how bad the first night of the fast was for him:
“It was a tough first night — and I was fine. I’m delightful right now. Last night sucked hard. They said the first 24 hours are tough and I felt really weak and tired.”
As for his motive to even try this water fast in the first place, the new dad said he was frustrated with his health and felt like he’d been slacking lately:
“I needed a cleanse and I’ve been eating way too much sugar lately these days. I think my diet is not where it could be or should be. It’s the new year, I was like, ‘f**k it.’ If my mom can do it, why can’t I?'”
The question isn’t whether he can, it’s whether he should? Does he really need to starve himself for FOUR DAYS? We mean, he’s a really slim, fit guy. This seems extreme to us!
And as crazy as the water fast may be, he did stress that listeners shouldn’t “take my recommendations.” He warned:
“I’m doing this for me. I don’t need feedback from any of you listening — good or bad.”
Glad that he said that. It’s responsible, at least. But still… having to say that at all is also probably a sign he shouldn’t be doing a fast this intense either! Just saying!!

Another sign this is a bad idea? The experience his poor wife Natalie Joy has had in dealing with “hangry” Nick so far! Joy was around for Thursday’s pod, too, and she quipped that she’s suffering even worse than the podcaster:
“I’m also suffering because he’s been nothing but a bitch this whole time to me. He’s the hangriest person I’ve ever been around. He’s so mad, he’s so angry and I’m like, ‘You can stop whenever you f**king want!’ Last night in bed, I was like, ‘Do you want me to boil you some eggs? Because this is insane. You are being mean to me.'”
She then followed her train of thought to its logical conclusion:
“It’s because you’re hungry and I understand. I would also be mean because I am mean when I’m hungry, but this is, like, intense hunger. You can’t complain when this was your doing.”
Seriously, tho! She’s dead right about that last part. It’s one thing to do a crazy water fast, but if you’re gonna do it, you need to recalibrate beforehand — and make sure you’re NOT a jerk to your wife because you’re hangry! You chose this path, bro! Just saying!!
