Nicole Kidman is embarking on a whole new career, and the reason behind it is so wholesome.
Nicole suffered a heartache so many can relate to in September 2024 when her mother Janelle Ann Kidman passed away at age 84. It was an incredibly tough loss for her — and it’s also reshaped the way she wants to live her life.

While speaking as part of the University of San Francisco‘s Silk Speaker Series on Saturday, according to the San Francisco Chronicle, the actress revealed she has embarked on a new career path after her death. Admitting it “may sound a little weird,” she shared:
“As my mother was passing, she was lonely, and there was only so much the family could provide.”
Referencing her sister, Antonia Kidman, she added:
“Between my sister and I, we have so many children and our careers and our work, and wanting to take care of her because my father wasn’t in the world anymore, and that’s when I went, ‘I wish there was these people in the world that were there to sit impartially and just provide solace and care.'”
Well… it turns out there are — they’re called death doulas — and she now wants to become one:
“So that’s part of my expansion and one of the things I will be learning.”
Death doulas (AKA end-of-life doulas) provide non-medical care for individuals and their families in their final days. They come in and help with the emotional, spiritual, and even practical aspects of dying. They can be a massive support to a family during a deeply difficult time.
It’s so beautiful that Nicole is learning from her painful experience so she can help others navigate this challenging process in the future! We’re sure she’ll still keep on acting as well, but who knows, maybe one day she’ll be a full-time DD!
