Nipsey Hussle's Memorial Service Will Take Place At The Staples Center

Nipsey Hussle

If there was ever any question about how popular rapper Nipsey Hussle was in Los Angeles during his impactful life, that’s pretty much been answered by the fact of where his family will be holding his memorial service.
As you’ll recall, the rapper was shot and killed last weekend while signing autographs and taking pictures with fans outside his store in the Hyde Park area of south Los Angeles. And now, his family is planning to give him the most spectacular of memorials next week: a funeral service at the Staples Center.

According to TMZ, the 21,000+ seat venue will hold Nipsey’s memorial service on Thursday morning. The event will be open to the public, but you must have a ticket to gain entry — apparently, tickets will be sold for the event through a website.
As you’d expect, coordinating this event over the last few days has apparently been a real undertaking itself; Nipsey’s family and head honchos from the Staples Center reportedly first met about this possibility several days ago, with LAPD officials involved every step of the way to help with crowd control, etc.
Logistically speaking, Staples Center employees have apparently already been tipped off to add Thursday morning to their work schedules, and equipment rentals are already happening. The Los Angeles Clippers play at the venue late the night before, on Wednesday, which will further complicate the turnaround for Thursday morning’s memorial, too. That’s all in a day’s work for that arena, though, which hosts two NBA teams, an NHL team, and countless concerts and shows, in addition to occasional events like this memorial service.

The real Staples Center story here, though, is what using the massive venue says about Nipsey’s impact on L.A. It’s incredible that the slain rapper could be so popular and well-liked in town to draw such a huge crowd to his wake, and that fact speaks volumes about the way he lived his life… and makes his untimely death all the more tragic and difficult to understand.
What do U think about all these developments, Perezcious readers?! Something tells us Nipsey’s wake will be one to remember, sadly — an emotional, high-profile send-off to a very popular, well-liked Los Angeles native. Share your take on all this with us in the comment section (below)…
