North Carolina Bans Gay Marriage

north carolina bans same sex gay marriage
We feel Americans should freely believe what they will, but when those beliefs harm or hinder the civil rights of fellow citizens, that becomes an issue.
Unfortunately, North Carolina voters turned their beliefs into actions that will hurt their fellow citizens when they voted in favor of Amendment 1 yesterday.
As we stated Tuesday, this means “marriage between one man and one woman is the only domestic legal union that shall be valid or recognized in this state.”
But the amendment doesn’t just affect the LGBT community. The ban also means domestic violence protection for any unmarried victim is now at risk as well. (Weird, right?)
Vote for Marriage NC leader, Tami Fitzgerald, stated:

We are not anti-gay, we are pro-marriage. And the point — the whole point — is simply that you don’t rewrite the nature of God’s design for marriage based on the demands of a group of adults.

So much for separation of church and state…
It’s a shame when consenting, adult Americans can’t enjoy the same rights as every other citizen just because radical members of one sub-culture fear difference.
It’s also a shame when Americans allow an amendment to pass that reinforces fearful beliefs in bullies. How many more children need to be mocked, punched, bruised, KILLED before people wake up and see the big picture?
That’s not loving one another if you ask us.
