North Korean gymnasts will not be attending the 2012 London Olympics due to a two-year international suspension for age-falsification.
The age requirement is that gymnasts turn 16 during the calendar year of the Olympics, and one of North Korea’s gymnasts would only be 14 or 15 (she has changed her birthdate for three different competitions, so it’s unclear how old she really is).
The age requirement was put in place to prevent permanent injuries to kids who are still growing/developing, so we’re glad that the Olympic committee put their foot down and banned North Korea!
