And it’s done.
Oscar Pistorius has just received five years for the death of his girlfriend, Reeva Steenkamp.
Though Pistorius was convicted of culpable homicide, he was ultimately cleared of murder. Under South African law, the once celebrated athlete will have to serve at least one-sixth of his sentence — 10 months — before he can ask to be considered for parole. The judge also gave Pistorius a three-year suspended sentence for a firearms charge.
Oscar insisted throughout the entire case, sometimes even through tears, that it was a horrible mistake when he shot Reeve in 2013 on Valentine’s Day. He had thought she was an intruder, so the the double-amputee sprinter grabbed his gun and shot at her through the bathroom door.
We’re hearing the usually emotional Pistorius remained stoic and calm during his sentencing.
We have a feeling his expression is going to change in the next 10 months.
