Michelle Trachtenberg was one of several stars left out of the Oscars‘ In Memoriam tribute this year.
On Sunday, the Hollywood elite gathered in Los Angeles to honor the best of this year’s film industry — and, of course, they took a moment out of the celebration to mourn the loss of the many creatives lost in the past year.
Morgan Freeman kicked off the In Memoriam segment by paying special tribute to his dear friend Gene Hackman, who passed under mysterious circumstances alongside his wife Betsy and their dog last week. A slideshow then highlighted stars like Maggie Smith, Gena Rowlands, Teri Garr, Donald Sutherland, Louis Gossett Jr., Shelley Duvall, David Lynch, and James Earl Jones, just to name a few.

Despite the many big names who earned a spot in the high-profile tribute, fans noticed the Gossip Girl star — who was never nominated for an Academy Award — was totally snubbed! Despite passing away on the same day that Gene was found dead (after she reportedly suffered private health issues), the 39-year-old actress was not included in the segment, and fans are really upset about it!
Taking to X (Twitter) during the show, they wrote:
“Michelle Trachtenberg deserved her flowers!!! #Oscars that’s so sad”
“oh f**k yall for not including michelle trachtenberg. so disrespectful.”
“It’s shameful that the #Oscars didn’t include Michelle Trachtenberg in their memorial montage of all the actors/actresses who have passed within the year!!!”
“michelle trachtenberg not being mentioned in the in memoriam section of the oscars is upsetting , you are and will remain so so loved and admired Michelle
”
“Leaving out Michelle Trachtenberg is despicable”
“Not to mention Michelle Trachtenberg in #theoscars In Memoriam was a huge oversight.”
Oof. It’s always so hard to see someone get snubbed! Given the timing, it’s understandable why the Harriet the Spy alum was so fresh on everyone’s minds and why they may have expected to see her included.
She wasn’t the only notable performer who was skipped either. Beverly Hills, 90210 lead Shannen Doherty, Chilling Adventures of Sabrina lead Chance Perdomo, Candy Man and Final Destination star Tony Todd, and Alice alum Linda Lavinn were also not featured. Other well-known stars Alain Delon, Tony Roberts, James Darren, and Romeo and Juliet star Olivia Hussey were overlooked, too. A user on X acknowledged some of these snubs, writing:
“NO michelle trachtenberg??? NO shannen Doherty ??? NO Tony Todd???? i’m SICK”
Meanwhile, Quincy Jones got his own tribute later during the show with a performance by Queen Latifah introduced by Whoopi Goldberg and Oprah Winfrey.
FWIW, while Michelle wasn’t highlighted during the televised ceremony, the Buffy the Vampire Slayer star was included in an online In Memoriam. See HERE.
