The Oscars Say It Wasn't Their Fault The Straight Outta Compton Cast Wasn't Invited! Find Out Who They're Blaming!

The Oscars are apparently over taking the blame for Hollywood’s diversity problem!
Earlier this week, it came out that the majorly snubbed Straight Outta Compton cast wasn’t even invited to this year’s ceremony — which created an even bigger uproar over the #OscarsSoWhite controversy.
But the Academy Of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences says they aren’t to blame, because they aren’t the ones who do the inviting!

An Academy spokesperson said that they only invite the nominees, and it’s up to the studios to pick who else gets to go!
Speaking to People, the source said:

“The Academy invites the nominees only, and each studio gets a limited ticket allotment, based on the number of nominated films, to use at their discretion. It has been this way for decades.”

This would shift the blame onto Universal Pictures, who landed four Oscars nods — one of which for Straight Outta Compton‘s four (white) writers for Best Original Screenplay!
Universal also scored two acting nominations for Steve Jobs, one for 50 Shades Of Grey for Best Song, and four additional nods for Focus FeaturesThe Danish Girl!
So was that all their seats? Seems like they might have been able to wrangle a few more.

Are the studios where protestors should be focusing in general?
Stars like Whoopi Goldberg and George Clooney have said that the Oscar’s diversity controversy only mirrors a bigger issue in the entertainment biz’s lack of minority representation — which begins with the studios that hire the talent!
We can only hope all of this attention will get the studio system to finally change its thinking!
