Just days after the sudden and devastating loss of Patrick Muldoon at 57, his family is offering a glimpse into his final moments, and it’s as heartfelt as it is haunting.
On Wednesday, the late Melrose Place star’s sister, Shana Muldoon Zappa, shared what she says was the very last video her brother sent to their family group text chat. The clip was taken during a night out at LACMA in the Miracle Mile area of Los Angeles, where Patrick appeared relaxed, curious, and very much himself.
In the footage, he casually pans across artwork, stopping to admire a painting of Saint Ignatius of Loyola’s Vision of Christ and God the Father at La Storta. With that familiar charm, he reflects on the piece before slipping into a nostalgic chant from his Loyola High School football days — a moment that now feels almost unbearably poignant.

In her caption, Zappa pulled back the curtain on what that moment meant to her and their family:
“This was the last video my brother sent to our constant family group chat from Sat night at LACMA opening. I asked chat what is happening in this beautiful painting which is seen in the next slide. [Patrick] loved St. Ignatius because he was kind of the cool guy, good time guy who was still able to become a saint. Not only that but the LL LOY chant my brother says is from his football days at Loyola High School.”
She went on to describe the many layers of who Patrick was — not just the actor fans knew, but the brother, the artist, the deeply spiritual soul she clearly adored:
“As always, he jokes… and yet profoundly brings all things into one moment — the joke-ster, the artist, the football player, and the intensely spiritually connected, Jesuit educated, incredible being that is Patrick Muldoon. My best friend. The best brother / son / uncle / anyone could ever possibly ask for. I will have so much more to share as I know he loves this earthly realm and all he created within it… including all of the love and light his spirit is now receiving through all of you… Surrounding you in light.”
And in a line that will likely resonate with anyone grieving a sudden loss, she added:
“We will eventually have details on when and where we will celebrate him. But now we are still processing. I continue to speak of him in present tense. Because his spirit is all around me. He just changed forms”
Wow.

Of course, Patrick’s passing earlier this week came as a complete shock. According to reports, he suffered a sudden heart attack at his Beverly Hills home after spending a quiet morning with his partner, Miriam Rothbart. He was found unresponsive in the bathroom, and paramedics pronounced him dead at the scene.

Just weeks earlier, he had been photographed smiling on the red carpet at the 53rd annual Saturn Awards, looking polished and full of life in a navy suit. It’s a reminder of how quickly everything can change — and how the last images we have of someone can take on new meaning overnight.
Since the news broke, tributes have poured in from those who knew him best. Denise Richards remembered his infectious energy and unwavering loyalty, for example, while Tori Spelling reflected on decades of friendship, sharing how he supported her through difficult times with humor and care.
But it’s this final video, so simple and human, that now stands as a quiet goodbye. And maybe, in some way, that makes it all the more powerful.
