At least, we think it’s in protest! We’re not really sure, because we don’t think it’s either a clever OR good idea, and there’s gotta be a better way to show your distaste (how about an ACTUAL boycott) without having to send trash to people!
But common sense isn’t really stopping Paula Deen‘s fans from sending butter wrappers to all the places that severed ties with her over the racist jokes, remarks, and requests that she’s made in the past!
A lot of places have been getting the wrappers, too: Food Network, QVC, Sears, Wal-Mart, Ballantine Books and other companies. Apparently, the man behind the campaign says it means that they’re ‘sticking with Paula,’ but that’s so lame that we can’t take him seriously!
Here’s their official slogan:
“A corporation without Paula Deen is like a butter wrapper without butter.”
We say a better slogan would be:
“A World Without Racism Would Be A Much Butter Place”
That would mean that they weren’t sticking up for racist comments, though! LOLz!
The campaigner continues:
“The butter itself is Paula, and these wrappers are void of butter just like these companies are void of Paula. She made a mistake 20 years ago. We all make mistakes. I’ve said things I regret.
“Perhaps somebody somewhere in mail rooms is keeping track. I would’ve loved to see their face for the first one. Like, ‘Ew, is this butter?'”
Doesn’t this guy have anything better to do? Is he just choosing to ignore the fact that she asked black employee to be slaves for a wedding? That’s offensive, even 20 years later!
He should be sending the wrapper to HER, urging HER to make things right! Say that the butter is their trust, and that the wrapper is how they once viewed her!
Ha! (By the way, is it really a bad thing to want nothing to do with racism?)
