Ha! Yeah, we’ve heard a lot of people complain that they’re still suffering mental anguish after wasting $12.50 to see this thing in theaters!
Keith Sharp, who hails as the mayor of Peterborough, was denied a rental copy of Piranha 3D at a local Blockbuster recently as the employee was led to believe it would put his health at risk. As Mayor Sharp has been a professional health and safety adviser for the past 14 years, he was dumbfounded when the cashier wouldn’t hand over the movie and had to explain to him that isn’t the movie that’s bad for him – its the 3D glasses.
The employee had misunderstood the new policy that allows customers to rent previously viewed 3D movies, but not previously used 3D glasses for hygiene reasons. (They’ve been known to pass infections.)
When asked about the incident, Sharp was pretty, well, sharp about it. He told sources:
“It├óΓé¼Γäós absolutely stupid. It├óΓé¼Γäós one of those over-the-top health and safety issues I├óΓé¼Γäóm sick and tired of. Things like renting a DVD should be common sense. I├óΓé¼Γäóve come across idiotic health and safety people in my time and this is up there with the worst of them.”
Ouch! Harsh! Stupidity isn’t a crime, you know.
Still, Blockbuster quickly apologized to the mayor with a statement, saying
“Staff have been trained on our strategy ├óΓé¼ΓÇ£ but unfortunately, in this case, they provided the wrong information to the customer.”
He’ll know better for next time, though. (Unless he got canned! Eck!)
