In a move that has shocked some members of the religious community, Pope Francis of Vatican City married 20 couples (some who’ve cohabited or already have kids) this past Sunday.
The unprecedented event is just another reason why Pope Francis is considered one of Italy’s more modern and progressive popes.
Despite the church’s view that pre-marital cohabitation is a sin, Pope Francis cited forgiveness as a reason for marrying the socially diverse couples.
Throughout the beautiful ceremony, Pope Francis made a lot of poignant comments about marriage, like:
“Marriage is real life, not some TV show.”
