Portugal Passes Gay Marriage Bill!!!!

Portugal will be the 6th European country to allow same-sex marriage!

The Parliament passed a gay marriage bill with the support from their left-of-center parties! It’s pretty surprising for the mostly Roman Catholic country, but we could not be more excited.

The measure will now be reviewed by conservative President Anibal Cavaco Silva, who has the power to ratify or veto, yet any decision can be overturned by Parliament.

Prime Minister Jose Socrates believes that the proposed law is part of the effort to modernize Portugal.
