The headlines have been flying all over the place after King Charles quietly welcomed Prince Harry, Meghan Markle, Prince Archie, and Princess Lilibet to Highgrove House for their first family reunion in four years.
On the surface, it certainly sounds like a huge moment for the Sussexes. Family reunited! Fences mended! Happy ending!
But… not so fast! There was one HUGE thing missing from that groundbreaking (and very private) reunion — and it’s supposedly set to hurt Meghan and Harry in the endless battle for good PR, according to several insiders on this week!

Now, new reporting over the weekend per Rob Shuter‘s Substack blog Naughty But Nice suggests that the biggest story may actually be what DIDN’T happen during that highly anticipated meeting.
Sure, the private reunion took place. Buckingham Palace even confirmed the gathering. But there was one glaring omission that has royal watchers buzzing: there wasn’t a single official photograph released from the meeting. And according to insiders speaking to Naughty But Nice, that was NOT an accident.
One insider claimed:
“The meeting was valuable, but the photograph was the prize. Meghan understands the power of imagery better than almost anyone. A single picture with the King would have reminded the world that she and Harry are still royalty. That’s branding gold.”
Oof!
If that insider is correct, then the Palace knew exactly what was at stake. After all, Harry and Meghan’s connection to the royal fam has remained one of the biggest drivers of worldwide interest in everything they do even since stepping back from official royal duties.
The same source went even further, telling Shuter:
“This wasn’t about family. It was about access. Royal association remains their most valuable asset. A smiling photograph with the King would have instantly reset the narrative, reinforced their status, and reminded everyone that they still belong in the royal conversation.”
That’s certainly one way to look at it!
And here’s where the alleged chess match gets fascinating. According to the outlet’s sources, Buckingham Palace understood exactly what such an official photograph of the family reunion could represent — and so, they simply declined to create one.
As another insider put it:
“The Palace knew the value of that photograph. It would have been used for years as proof of reconciliation and royal endorsement. The meeting happened. The picture didn’t.”
Wow…
While plenty of commentators have been celebrating this reunion as some kind of major victory for Harry and Meghan, other insiders say that’s completely missing the point. One source explained:
“This wasn’t a surrender — it was a grandfather wanting to see his grandchildren. People are confusing compassion with capitulation.”
That distinction may be the entire story.

Think about it: there was no official portrait, no warm public embrace for the cameras, no balcony appearance, no joint statement announcing a fresh start, no restoration of Harry’s royal responsibilities, and no changes to security protocols. Nothing about the institution itself appears to have shifted.
Thus, another source summed it up this way:
“If Buckingham Palace wanted the world to see this as a reconciliation, there would have been a picture. The fact there wasn’t tells you everything you need to know.”
That certainly supports the argument that the Palace wanted this meeting to remain exactly what it publicly appeared to be: a private family gathering rather than a public relations event.
And perhaps that’s where King Charles quietly scored the biggest win. According to another royal insider:
“The institution didn’t blink. Charles acted as a father and a grandfather, not as the head of the monarchy negotiating terms.”
Whether you believe every anonymous insider or not, it’s hard to ignore the optics here!
Yes, the reunion happened. Yes, Charles saw his son and grandchildren. But The Firm didn’t provide the kind of image that could have instantly fueled weeks, months, or even years of reconciliation speculation.
