Prince William BAILS On Godfather's Memorial Service For 'Personal Reasons' Amid Princess Catherine’s Recovery

Prince William BAILS On Royal Memorial At Last Minute Due To ‘Personal Reasons’ Amid Princess Catherine’s Recovery

UPDATE 12:20 P.M. PST: It seems Kate is OK after all?

Perhaps in response to the widespread concern when Will canceled his event for “personal reasons” the Palace issued a nominally unrelated health update about Princess Catherine on Tuesday. They wrote:

“Princess of Wales, who is recovering from abdominal surgery, continues to be doing well.”

Hmm. We wonder what that personal matter was! Well, they do have three children, so it really could be so many things. Hopefully we’ll learn soon if it was something serious.

Prince William unexpectedly backed out of a royal event on Tuesday, sparking concern.

As Perezcious readers know, the Prince of Wales has just gotten back into public duties after a break to care for his wife Princess Catherine after her abdominal surgery. But on Tuesday morning, he called out of a memorial service for his godfather, the late King Constantine II of Greece.

According to DailyMail.com, the 41-year-old was supposed to give a reading at the service, but called the Greek family at the last minute to back out and apologize for his absence, claiming it was due to “personal reasons.” Crown Prince Pavlos, the King’s eldest son, conducted the reading instead.

Of course, this is particularly concerning considering Kate Middleton is out of public-facing work until Easter while recovering from a mysterious surgery. But a Kensington Palace spokesperson has already come out of the woodwork to confirm William’s absence was “due to a personal matter” while insisting the Princess of Wales is “doing well,” Today reported. Phew, that’s a relief!

Queen Camilla joined Prince Andrew, Sarah Ferguson, Princess Eugenie, Princess Beatrice, Princess Anne, and Zara and Mike Tindall at the event held at Windsor Castle. While King Charles III has been staying at the estate amid his cancer battle and was seen on the property earlier in the day, he reportedly left in the morning and was not present for the service. He is also not expected to meet with the Greek royals who are visiting for the service, Page Six noted. Hmm.

While the 75-year-old is continuing to stay out of the spotlight amid the medical treatment, he did resume in-person responsibilities last week by meeting with the British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak at Buckingham Palace, but we guess this visit with the Greek royals just wasn’t a priority. As for William, it remains to be seen why he was absent. We hope everything is okay!
