Queen Elizabeth Breaks Silence On Coronavirus Pandemic: The Royal Family Is ‘Ready To Play Our Part’

queen Elizabeth II coronavirus statement

The Queen has spoken!

On Thursday, Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth finally spoke out about the worldwide Coronavirus outbreak. In a statement released from Buckingham Palace, the royal matriarch addressed this “period of great concern and uncertainty” and acknowledged the need to “protect the most vulnerable” within our communities.

The statement went on:

“At times such as these, I am reminded that our nation’s history has been forged by people and communities coming together to work as one, concentrating our combined efforts with a focus on the common goal.

We are enormously thankful for the expertise and commitment of our scientists, medical practitioners and emergency and public services; but now more than any time in our recent past, we all have a vitally important part to play as individuals – today and in the coming days, weeks and months.”

The news accompanies a schedule change for the 93-year-old ruler. Along with husband Prince Phillip, Her Majesty is heading to Windsor Castle for her Easter holiday a week early. The switch is “a sensible precaution and for practical reasons in the current circumstances,” according to the Royal Family’s website.

Noting that the Windsor retreat may very well be extended, the website’s message suggested more cancellations in the future:

“In consultation with the Medical Household and Government, a number of public events with large numbers of people due to have been attended by The Queen, and other Members of the Royal Family, in the coming months will be cancelled or postponed.”

The Queen’s own statement recognized the need to “change our normal routines and patterns for the greater good”. And she made it clear that the Royal Family is no exception, promising that they “stand ready to do our part.”

She added:

“Many of us will need to find new ways of staying in touch with each other and making sure that loved ones are safe. I am certain we are up to that challenge.”

Does this mean she’ll be hopping on FaceTime with Will and Kate? We think so!
