The Queen has spoken… sort of.
As we reported, Meghan Markle and Prince Harry made an announcement on Wednesday detailing their decision to step down as “senior” members of the royal family, shocking the world — and Her Majesty’s office, apparently!

Mere hours after the announcement was made, the office of Queen Elizabeth II hit back with a statement suggesting the couple didn’t consult other members of the royal family before unveiling their plans to the world.
According to royal reporter Richard Palmer, the statement reads:
“Discussions with The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are at an early stage. We understand their desire to take a different approach, but these are complicated issues that will take time to work through.”
Wow! Sounds like it’s all still very up in the air, which is NOT how Harry and Meg made things seem in their initial statement.
Earlier Wednesday, they shared in part:
“After many months of reflection and internal discussions, we have chosen to make a transition this year in starting to carve out a progressive new role within this institution. We intend to step back as ‘senior’ members of the Royal Family and work to become financially independent, while continuing to fully support Her Majesty The Queen.”
It even continued:
“It is with your encouragement, particularly over the last few years, that we feel prepared to make this adjustment. We now plan to balance our time between the United Kingdom and North America, continuing to honour our duty to The Queen, the Commonwealth, and our patronages. This geographic balance will enable us to raise our son with an appreciation for the royal tradition into which he was born, while also providing our family with the space to focus on the next chapter, including the launch of our new charitable entity.”
We guess Her Majesty The Queen doesn’t fully support her grandson and granddaughter-in-law’s “progressive new role” for themselves!

Moreover, the BBC’s royal correspondent Jonny Dymond has since claimed the Palace is “disappointed” with the couple’s plans to split their time between the UK and North America.
So, while it’s now clear that discussions still need to be had, we have to wonder: what will be the result of those discussions? Will Gammy cut off her grandkids completely for their insubordination? Being cut out before these plans were made public?
We shudder to think about how Her Majesty will respond!
There’s really no way for the Duke and Duchess of Sussex to go back on their announcement, though we’re shocked to hear how it’s supposedly been handled inside the royal circle.
Especially when it’s all for Archie’s sake, really.
