Um, do you know what he did? Why SHOULDN’T he have a punishment that fits the crime, especially if the first punishment was waaaay off?
After video of former Baltimore Raven‘s player Ray Rice’s brutal abuse of his now wife Janay surfaced, everyone pretty much came out against him.
Though now it looks like someone is on his side… even if he sorta does pay them to have his back: the NFL player’s union is stepping up for Rice, having already appealed his indefinite suspension.
We hope they feel good about doing this (which is sarcasm, because they shouldn’t.).
They’re appealing on the grounds that he shouldn’t be punished twice for the same crime.
What they’re referring to is the disgustingly short two game suspension he originally received after the barely less brutal first elevator video came out.
Once the more brutal video from inside the elevator was made public, Rice was then punished more severely based on this “new evidence,” according to Roger Goodell, who probably totally knew about the second video all along.
The NFL Player’s Association released a statement that said:
“This action taken by our union is to protect the due process rights of all NFL players. The NFLPA appeal is based on supporting facts that reveal a lack of a fair and impartial process, including the role of the office of the commissioner of the NFL. We have asked that a neutral and jointly selected arbitrator hear this case as the commissioner and his staff will be essential witnesses in the proceeding and thus cannot serve as impartial arbitrators.”
We honestly can’t even guess as to how all of this is going to turn out.
It’s an awful situation for literally everyone involved and we hope it’s all resolved quickly and fairly.
