Bad news for baby stock brokers!
The Federal Trade Commission is updating the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act.
The Act was last updated the rules in 2005, but the government is looking to create new rules “in light of rapidly evolving technology and changes in the way children use and access the Internet.”
These new rules would tighten requirements covering the collection and storage of of personal information by websites and how they solicit and obtain parental approval for kids under 13. It’d essentially websites stay out your kid’s bidness!
The changes would apply to online apps (something that wasn’t really around in 2005) and children’s websites and games that collect and store data on it’s users.
The new rules will be open for public comment until Nov. 28.
