Seriously???
Republicans just put a STOP to an amendment that would essentially block employers from forcing Facebook passwords from employees!
Democratic Senators Blumenthal and Schumer as well as other Dems have been trying to offer a legislation to prevent our privacy from being invaded.
Even Facebook ITSELF thinks the practice is against their privacy policy!
Democratic Representative Ed Perlmutter argues:
“It only makes sense because those that are using these kinds of social media have an expectation of privacy. They have an expectation that their right to free speech or their right to free religion will be respected when they use these social media outlets. If you are a Facebook user, you should never have to share your password.”
The Republicans weren’t having it, however, with NONE of them voting for the measure on Tuesday night!
Republican Rep Greg Walden stated:
“You don’t protect the consumer. And there are many of us who after this debate concludes and moves on, would be happy to work with you on legislation because I think this is a real issue that we all share, and that is protecting privacy. This doesn’t do that.”
Seems like they didn’t think it was that urgent to approve of on Tuesday, citing that the FCC’s process in instituting new policies is rather lengthy.
Guess we’ll have to wait until a “later time” to see if this amendment actually gets passed!
Man, those Republicans sure love their FCC rules!!!
