Pearl, the black lab, has been named Dog of the Year by the ASPCA for her many rescue efforts, including the earthquake that occurred in Haiti.
Pearl and her owner Ron Horestki worked for days searching through the rubble for any signs of life.
Pearl had not always been a rescue dog. She had been in a shelter in North Carolina, left by her former owners, when the National Disaster Search Dog Foundation decided Pearl had what it took to become a rescue dog.
She was then paired with Horetski who went through FEMA training with her. He explains, “it was a perfect match, though I’m six-foot-six and have a little black Lab named Pearl. But she’s awesome with direction control, commands and obedience.” Aww!
Congratz Pearl!
