Richard Gere Responds To His Homeless Social Media Post That Went Viral -- It Wasn't Actually His Post, But Here's Why He's Happy It Was Done!

Earlier this month, a picture posted by a fan pretending to be Richard Gere went viral. The message claimed that the star went undercover while filming his new flick Time Out of Mind and gave $100 to various homeless people in New York.
The real 66-year-old icon caught wind of the picture that drew more than 1.6 million likes and chose to clear up the situation.

The movie follows Gere’s character — homeless and mentally ill, George — as he tries to fix his relationship with his daughter, played by Jena Malone. During filming, Mr. Gere was essentially undercover in an (sometimes failed) attempt to not be recognized.

Despite not having any social media of his own, the Pretty Woman actor enlisted the help of costar Malone’s Facebook profile to send a message to his fans.
While he admits that he never said those words from the fake post, the activist shares that he is happy that a conversation has been started about homelessness and he will be hosting a Q&A with the film’s director Oren Moverman this week.
