Should He Or Shouldn't He: Will Ricky Gervais Host The Golden Globes?

A house is serverly divided this week. We’re hearing that the Hollywood Foreign Press Association can’t make up their minds about having Ricky Gervais host the Golden Globes again this year. In one corner, we have the folks who insist he did too much damage to their rep the last time he hosted. On the other end, there’s the argument that the marketing practically writes itself.
While they can’t make up their minds about Ricky, all sides are in agreement one one thing: NBC sucks for putting them in this jam! Yes, it was the networks insistence that he be considered that is putting the HFPA in such a tough spot and no one is very happy about it. According to a source close to the situation:

“NBC has put the HFPA in a lose-lose situation. If the Hollywood Foreign Press says yes to Ricky, it risks turning the Globes into The Ricky Gervais Show and leaving the impression that they’re annually throwing a great party while inviting someone who humiliates all of the guests. If it says no, the HFPA looks like it has no sense of humor about itself. The problem is, if you have Ricky, the show tends to wind up being all about him and how mean he can be. He effectively dwarfs the importance of the ceremony itself.”

You know, if Ricky was so inclined, he could just not accept the offer. That would take a lot of pressure off of everyone.
But will he? Sounds like everyone has some big decisions to make, and they all have to be made by the week’s end!
