Run-D.M.C., Metallica, and the Stooges are among the 9 nominees up for induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
In order to receive a nomination an act must have released its first single 25 years prior. This is the first year that Run-D.M.C. qualifies and if they get accepted, they will be only the second rap act ever to be inducted. Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five was the first rap group to receive a place in the Hall in 2007.
The nominees also include guitarist Jeff Beck, singer Wanda Jackson, Little Anthony and the Imperials, War, Bobby Womack, and disco R&B group Chic. With Chic, the Stooges, and Jackson previously nominated, the group represents a large number of newcomers and a wide range of genres.
However, notably absent from the ballot were Stevie Ray Vaughan and Bon Jovi, both of which just became eligible.
How could you diss Bon Jovi???!!!!!!!
The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame has met with some controversy in the 25 years since the Foundation came into existence, mostly for its nomination process as some of the members of the nomination committee aren’t musicians. Recently there has been some question over the smaller pool of nominees from 14 or 15 to 9, limiting voters’ options.
The five most voted nominees will be announced in January with the induction following in April.
In 2009 the induction ceremony will be returning to its home of Cleveland, Ohio after a ten year hiatus in New York.
Who would U vote for?
