It's Official -- A Romy And Michele Sequel Is In Production! See Who From Original Cast Is Returning!

Oh. My. God.

One of the most beloved cult comedies of the ‘90s is finally getting the sequel treatment, and fans who have been waiting for decades for this moment can officially start celebrating! After years of rumors, wishful thinking, and endless questions directed at the stars, the next chapter of Romy and Michele’s story is officially moving forward.

Production has now begun on a SEQUEL (!!!) to Romy and Michele’s High School Reunion, according to both the Hollywood Reporter and Variety on Monday! Yes, producers really are bringing back the iconic duo that audiences fell in love with nearly three decades ago! Mira Sorvino and Lisa Kudrow are both returning to reprise their unforgettable roles, proving that some friendships really do stand the test of time.

AH-Mazing!!!

The original movie became a surprise classic after its release in 1997, thanks to its quirky humor, endlessly quotable dialogue, and the irresistible chemistry between its two leading ladies. Romy and Michele’s mission to reinvent themselves before facing their former classmates turned into one of the most memorable comedy stories of its era, and fans have never stopped asking for more. And now, those wishes are finally coming true.

And it’s not just Romy and Michele who are making a comeback! Several familiar faces from the original film are also returning for the sequel. Janeane Garofalo is set to return as Heather, while Alan Cumming will once again step into the role of fan-favorite Sandy Frink. Camryn Manheim and Julia Campbell are also coming back, giving longtime fans even more reasons to get excited. Love it!!!

Of course, every sequel needs some fresh blood. A number of new cast members have joined the project, per THR and Variety, including Keegan-Michael Key, Rob Huebel, Breckin Meyer, Patrick Warburton, and Nathan Lee Graham. So far, details about their characters are being kept under wraps, which only adds to the anticipation.

Behind the scenes, there’s even more good news. The creative team includes several people with connections to the original movie, helping ensure that the sequel maintains the spirit fans remember. Robin Schiff, who created the characters and wrote the first film, is back and involved in the new project. Plus, Tim Federle is directing and producing the movie, while multiple key producers from the original team are also returning. So, that’s a good sign!!!

FYI, the sequel is being developed by 20th Century Studios and will be released as a Hulu Original, which means that if you’re in the US, you will be able to stream it through Hulu, while international audiences will be able to catch it on Disney+.

Now the big question is: what exactly have Romy and Michele been up to all these years??? We don’t have those answers yet, but knowing these two, we can probably expect plenty of outrageous moments, questionable decisions, and hilarious adventures along the way.

One thing is certain: the reunion is officially back on, and we are SO ready for it! How about U, Perezcious readers??
