Rose McGowan Says She Won't Rest Easy Until Harvey Weinstein Is Dead

Rose McGowan Harvey Weinstein Dead Quote Rape Trial Verdict

Harvey Weinstein was found guilty of rape on Monday, something many saw as a victory for justice.

Considering he got off on the charges which carried the longest prison terms — and the fact he won’t ever have to face trial for most of the sexual misconduct he’s been accused of by dozens of women over the past couple years, not to mention going out of his way to destroy the careers of actresses to cover his tracks — we’re not exactly feeling like it’s enough punishment.

Still, the movie mogul now being a convicted rapist is something. A lot of women in Hollywood took a moment to celebrate. Elizabeth Banks wrote:

“I am heartened for his victims and for all those who said #metoo and #TimesUp that some justice has been done.”

Mira Sorvino, who had a Weinstein story of her own, thanked the journalists who helped uncover his crimes:

“Just want to acknowledge that without @RonanFarrow @mega2e @jodikantor Harvey Weinstein would not be a convicted rapist. Thank you thank you thank you! And thank you Ronan for helping me find my voice.”

Amber Tamblyn told MSNBC:

Now, he is an actual rapist according to the law, and that’s a huge deal. This is a revolutionary moment in these kinds of proceedings and conversations.”

Asia Argento, who accused Weinstein of rape back in the ’90s, posted to Instagram:

Rose McGowan was one of the earliest Weinstein accusers; so how does she feel? Well, that’s a little more complicated.

In an interview on Evan Ross Katz‘s Shut Up Evan podcast published on Tuesday — but recorded before the verdict came out — Rose was asked she felt any closure from the trial. She responded dourly:

“Probably not until he’s dead now.”

Wow. She elaborated:

“I feel like he and I are strapped in this battle together until one of us is dead. That’s how it goes. I energetically, we’re like just locked. It’s a really disgusting feeling. I just would love to be able to be like other people and live my life. That would be really nice, you know?”

That’s so awful. But maybe she feels differently now that the “Monster” as she called him has actually been convicted? Her tweet after the fact was a little more hopeful and full of gratitude for the verdict, as she wrote:

I’m proud of the brave women who testified, they have taken out a monster on earth. Thank you to the prosecutor & jury who said not one more. Thank you to the public for examining things more deeply. I can finally exhale”

We hope that’s how she really feels, a little better than still being “strapped in the battle” with a monster. In a more official statement later on she said:

“Every one of us who’s come forward, we have a name, we have a history, we have a life, we are more than Weinstein. But today because of the brave women who bared their deepest hurts for the world to see, he’s in Rikers Island. For once, he won’t be sitting comfortably. For once he will know what it’s like to have power wrapped around his neck. Today is not a referendum on Me Too. This is taking out the trash.”

It seems Rose is still not fully down with the movement, but at least she can share in their relief at not having to watch another accused sexual predator go completely unpunished simply because of his money and power.

How did YOU react to the verdict??
