Los Angeles' Famous Runyon Canyon Hiking Trail To Close For Four Months -- Get The Deets!

Over the years, Runyon Canyon has been an El Lay hot spot to go to for a hike and take in a great view.
There have even been several celebrities like Miley Cyrus and Vanessa Hudgens who have been spotted numerous times hitting the trail.

Well there seems to be a bit of bad news for all of you outdoorsy folk — the Runyon Canyon hiking area is closing down temporarily for four months starting April 1!
While we sure will miss the trail, it’s probably for the best as the city of El Lay is having the Department of Water and Power install a mile long, 6-inch water pipeline that will run throughout the park from Runyon Canyon Road to Mulholland Drive.
This project has been developed in hopes of helping to bolster the city’s fire protection system, as well as reduce pipes breaking, and help to improve the overall quality of water in the surrounding area.
Apparently, there are about three dozen leaks in the current pipeline. YIKES!
Joe Salaices, the superintendent of recreation and parks for the Griffith Park area even said that the current pipeline “has deteriorated to a level that is of serious concern.” Oof!
According to Salaices:

“A break in the line would probably cause major damages, not only in the park but also to properties surrounding the park.”

Construction is planned to take place from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Friday, starting the first of April and the area of the park will not be open again until July 31, 2016.
Will Runyon’s closure impact your exercise routine?!
