Rupaul isn’t bothered by the use of the word “tranny?” Inneresting…
While on Marc Maron‘s WTF podcast, Rupaul gave an argument against the offensiveness of the term “tranny,” and in doing so, delivered an incredible and uplifting speech about being whoever you want to be, doing whatever you want, and not looking for happiness in the response of other people:
“Does the word ├óΓé¼╦£tranny├óΓé¼Γäó bother me? No. I love the word ├óΓé¼╦£tranny.├óΓé¼Γäó├óΓé¼┬ªIt├óΓé¼Γäós not the transexual community who├óΓé¼Γäós saying that. These are fringe people who are looking for storylines to strengthen their identity as victims. That is what we are dealing with. It├óΓé¼Γäós not the trans community. ├óΓé¼╦£Cause most people who are trans have been through hell and high water├óΓé¼┬ª But some people haven├óΓé¼Γäót and they├óΓé¼Γäóve used their victimhood to create a situation where, ├óΓé¼╦£No! You look at me! I want you to see me the way you├óΓé¼Γäóre supposed to see me!├óΓé¼Γäó You know, if your idea of happiness has to do with someone else changing what they say, what they do, you are in for a fucking hard-ass road├óΓé¼┬ª I dance to the beat of a different drummer. I believe everybody ├óΓé¼ΓÇ¥ you can be whatever the hell you wanna be, I ain├óΓé¼Γäót stopping you. But don├óΓé¼Γäót you dare tell me what I can do or what I can├óΓé¼Γäót ├óΓé¼ΓÇ¥ say or can├óΓé¼Γäót do. It├óΓé¼Γäós just words, like, ├óΓé¼╦£Yeah, you hurt me!├óΓé¼Γäó Bitch, you need to get stronger. If you├óΓé¼Γäóre upset by something I said you have bigger problems than you think.├óΓé¼┬¥
Rupaul is so right. Words meant to hurt you or insult you are only as powerful and effective as you yourself make them.
Be who are you are, do what you want, and never make your own internal happiness based on the external response from others.
But what do you guys think about Rupaul’s stance on the word “tranny”?
