Sam Asghari has mixed feelings on how his very high-profile romance with Britney Spears impacted his career.
In Monday’s episode of Page Six Radio, Sam acknowledged his relationship with the pop star had an impact on his acting career. He wasn’t blind to the fact most people know his name because of the romance, he explained:
“I can’t sit here and lie and say, ‘It wasn’t good for me.’ … When you’re in such a public relationship, that gives you that platform — it sort of gave me that platform for who I am.”
It totally gave him his platform!

But he doesn’t think she gets full credit for his career. He was already getting his start in the biz when he met Britney by starring in her music video in 2016, he pointed out:
“I just started acting at that moment, so I was already doing stuff anyway.”
Recalling meeting his ex on the Slumber Party set, the 31-year-old added:
“I mean, we met on the acting set. We met as co-workers.”
So, he feels like he was well on his way to stardom. Or at least, to a career as a working actor… Obviously, the reason he was in all those headlines over the years was because of who he was linked to! We probably wouldn’t know his name otherwise! And we know some studios cast people based on name recognition and Instagram followers…
But Sam says being so exposed was a double-edged sword when it came to his work. He believes the romance actually HURT his career! He dished:
“Did it make me, you know, have to work harder to prove myself? Absolutely.”
It wasn’t just Brit Brit, though. He also thinks being a trainer while auditioning caused him to suffer. The model said conversations among casting agents went like:
“’Do we really want to hire someone that’s a cheesy trainer? Oh, and he’s associated with a pop star, which is also cheesy as well. Or can we see him as a character?’ There was that line as well.”
Damn! Not him calling his relationship “cheesy”!
To be fair, struggling actors have always had side hustles, so we doubt that was the main thing holding casting agents back! LOLz! Sure, maybe his relationship caused them to second-guess whether he was talented or just well-known… but it was also likely a big reason he got into so many rooms. We mean, even though he wasn’t supposed to talk about her, him being the Circus singer’s ex-husband was kinda his biggest draw on The Traitors! Just saying!
