Straight boys kissing??? Well, in Universities and high schools in the UK it’s common for straight men to kiss.
Researcher, Eric Anderson, a sociologist at Bath University, said that there has been a move toward a “nicer, softer” ideal of masculinity.
In a study of 145 British university and high school students Anderson discovered that 89% had kissed a male heterosexual friend on the lips at some point. These boys all identified as heterosexual and did not think of the kissing as sexual.
This trend of same sex kissing has skyrocketed, most likely starting on the professional soccer field where players often share kisses after goals. This made kissing between men more acceptable for college and high-school players and now it’s spreading to those non-athletes.
And although it also turns out that these kisses often happen during a night of drinking, the men aren’t ashamed or question their sexuality.
Anderson explained in his findings that growing acceptance of same sex kissing doesn’t mean that homophobia is gone, just that masculine ideals are changing.
We’re totally ok with this, and that the “macho” sense of being a tough guy is slowly disappearing!
Do U think it is likely same-sex kissing will become more popular in the States soon?
