What a touching statement — and an adorable picture.
On the day of her death, Sean Astin paid a brief but important tribute to his mother, Patty Duke, with a Facebook post speaking for the family and advocating for mental health care.

The Lord of the Rings actor posted the photo (above) on his official Facebook page, with a very simple statement about the loss.
The message started exactly how you’d expect (below):
“I love you mom.”
And then continued with the official statement on her death, which happened earlier Tuesday:
“OUR FAMILY STATEMENT ON THE PASSING OF PATTY DUKE
This morning, our beloved wife, mother, grandmother, matriarch and the exquisite artist, humanitarian, and champion for mental health, Anna PATTY DUKE Pearce, closed her eyes, quieted her pain and ascended to a beautiful place. We celebrate the infinite love and compassion she shared through her work and throughout her life.”
Sad.

Astin also included a link to a fundraiser for the Patty Duke Mental Health Project, an important and worthy cause to which she dedicated much of her life.
