It looks like The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives stars found a loophole in the super strict rules of the Mormon religion!
As Mayci Neeley explained on the Hulu show, there are a lot of guidelines surrounding what someone can put into their body in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, like the Word of Wisdom. She noted it is about “taking care” of their bodies, and they are told, “Our body is a temple, and we want to keep it clean and put clean things in it.” That means drinking alcohol, smoking tobacco, and doing harmful drugs are forbidden. Even consuming coffee and tea is not allowed!
What can the Mormon Wives cast do instead? You will be surprised! In the third episode, Mayci, Jennifer Affleck, Mikayla Matthews, and Whitney Leavitt decided to get Botox. But before getting their faces poked, they inhaled nitrous oxide or laughing gas beforehand! What! Whitney said in a confessional:
“In the LDS religion, we do not smoke. We do not drink. But when this MomTok group gets Botox, they’ll get laughing gas and it’s a party.”

When a producer asked if “everyone comes for the Botox or the laughing gas,” she noted it was “for both.” Wow! Even Mayci shared at one point she would get nitrous oxide “just for fun” at the time:
“I would low-key never get laughing gas with Botox, but I’ll do it today just for fun. Am I not gonna get high for free? It’s not against the rules.”
How is that? If you can’t even drink coffee or take drugs, how is laughing gas allowed – especially since it is not super common to use it while getting Botox? Here is the deal. According to the Cleveland Clinic, nitrous oxide is a “short-acting sedative” that “slows down your nervous system and induces a sense of calm and euphoria” and eases feelings of anxiety. It’s inhaled through a mask or nosepiece and is normally used for minor medical and dental procedures. When it comes to Botox, Dr. Jacqueline G. Berliner, who’s double board certified in dermatology and Mohs Micrographic Surgery, told People on Friday it is not “standard” to get laughing gas before the procedure:
“I wouldn’t say it’s standard to get before Botox, but I definitely have a handful of patients that prefer it.”
In the Mormon religion, you are not supposed to use any drugs except when they are necessary as medicine. As the outlet points out, while laughing gas doesn’t take away the feeling of pain, patients with a phobia of needles and who want to feel at ease during procedures sometimes ask for it. So we guess while coffee and tea are a big no-no, laughing gas is OK in this situation since it falls under the medical side of the rules?? However, many fans think it sounds like they are mainly getting it to have “fun” and get “high” since they are not allowed to partake in the other vices. Wild!
What makes this whole thing crazier is that some of the women criticized Jessi for having a drink one minute, but they are getting Botox to get laughing gas the next! And that is fine? Seriously? We mean, it is all a tad hypocritical, no? What are your thoughts, Perezcious readers? Are you shocked laughing gas is not against the rules? Sound OFF in the comments!
