Sen. Al Franken Calls BS On Anti-Gay Rep's Testimony

According to a representative for the anti-gay group, Focus on the Family, a study found families with opposite-sex parents to be overall healthier and happier.

Senator Al Franken checked the study out for himself, and found Tom Minnery misrepresenting the information found in the study.

The study stated nuclear families are overall healthier and happier, and the study also defined nuclear families to be ‘one or more children living with two parents who are married to one another and are each biological or adoptive parents to all the children in the family.’

When asked why he misrepresented the study, Mr. Minnery stated he believed a nuclear family to be headed by a man and a woman.

Guess he didn’t get a chance to read the footnotes…

Senator Franken concluded:

And I frankly don’t really know how we can trust the rest of your testimony if you are reading studies these ways.

Way to go, Franken!

We believe Mr. Minnery truly believed what he said, but that’s actually a good thing. Hopefully this example can bring to light how common it is for people to be ruled by their ignorance.
