Can you BELIEVE this could’ve been Carrie Bradshaw?
Nearly a decade after the Sex & The City alternate opening credits got released in 2017, it’s making its rounds on TikTok — and fans can’t handle what almost was. Before a stylist change, which put Sarah Jessica Parker in that ICONIC tutu outfit, Carrie was in a basic blue dress. And the intro had a much more melancholic feel.

It’s so much different than the one they went with! Where’s her getting splashed with water? Where’s the ruffles? It gives the show such a different vibe! In case you’ve never seen it before or need a refresher, watch to compare:
There’s a pink velvet DVD box set that includes commentary from showrunner Michael Patrick King. In it he said the intro perfectly encapsulates what the show’s about, which is, essentially, Carrie feeling high on herself only to meet hilarious tumbles that bring her to reflection and back to her true self. The concept is illustrated by Carrie literally prancing around New York City in an actual tutu until a bus splashes her with water and kills the vibe. Distraught she realizes it’s HER bus that did it, meaning the one with the advertisement for her newspaper column. The alternate intro was similar but not as extravagant. In the blue dress she trips, but that’s obviously far less dramatic than what we wind up getting with the finished opener. So glad they took another whack at it!!
In the comments, fans couldn’t believe what they were seeing with the alternate clip:
“It feels more like a reminiscing scene for like the last episode”
“Anyone who likes this better doesn’t understand the true spirit of the show or Carrie”
“This one doesn’t feel like Carrie at all”
“Would’ve changed the entire mood of the show.”
“This would be if SATC was about me – a different Carrie – and not thee Carrie Bradshaw”
“This made me realize the tutu I hate is perfect lol”
