Ozzy Osbourne was very nearly a pirate… if only his wife would have let him go for it!
On Wednesday, longtime TV talk show host Sharon Osbourne was a guest on Billy Corgan‘s The Magnificent Others. The 72-year-old woman is, of course, the longtime manager to her rock star husband, who is now 76 years old. And at one point during the show, Sharon took it upon herself to reveal that she once didn’t let Ozzy audition for Pirates of the Caribbean! Seriously!! He might have missed out on a HUGE opportunity!!

As you may recall, Rolling Stones legend Keith Richards appeared as a surprise guest star pirate in two installments of the popular movie franchise — in Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End as well as in Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides as Captain Teague. And according to Sharon, an opportunity once came up for Ozzy to do the very same thing as a surprise guest star at one point back in the day. But she turned it down on his behalf before he could even take the shot with casting directors!
Oh, no!!
Speaking candidly to the 57-year-old Smashing Pumpkins frontman, Sharon explained:
“Do you want to know the biggest mistake I ever made with Ozzy? He got offered to go and read for Pirates of the Caribbean, and I’ve never said this to anyone, and I said no.”
Sharon recalled how Richards’ appearance in the movie franchise came at the behest of none other than superstar Johnny Depp himself, noting:
“Because when Johnny wanted Keith [Richards] to be a pirate, you remember?”
Before going on to lament how the Black Sabbath frontman would have been “perfect” for a guest-starring role, as well:
“Now wouldn’t he have been perfect? He would have been perfect! Maybe it’s not too late, but God bless.”
Maybe it’s not too late! Heck, Ozzy has appeared in a variety of other movies during his long life in the public eye, including showings in Austin Powers in Goldmember along with Little Nicky. He was even a guest star on an episode of Crime Scene: Investigation among many other TV spots and movie cameos down throughout the years. So, hey, you never know, right?!
Of course, all that said, Ozzy has been very valiantly battling Parkinson’s Disease of late, too. So, it’s pretty unclear whether his health can still hold up to appearing in a movie role — no matter how big or small the gig may be as a guest star.
