Rumors of a relationship were swirling after Shawn Mendes and Hailey Bieber appeared at the Met Gala together, and we’re finally getting some answers months (and a marriage) later.
The singer is gracing the cover of Rolling Stone, opening up about his relationship with the newlywed, rumors about his sexuality, and more juiciness.

While the Stitches performer is hesitant to call it a relationship, he does acknowledge that it was more than friendly between him and Hail:
“I don’t even wanna put a title on it. I think it was more of a zone of limbo.”
What could have been!! The model soon after became linked to Justin Bieber again, and the rest is history. Shawn isn’t holding any grudges though:
“I texted Hailey, ‘Congratulations,’ and I really am happy for them. She’s still one of the f**king coolest people ever — she’s not just a beautiful person visually, but she’s one of the most beautiful hearts I’ve ever met.”
So who’s in the crooner’s life? Right now, no one! He also addresses the rumors of being gay and the pressure he feels to prove his sexuality:
“In the back of my heart, I feel like I need to go be seen with someone — like a girl — in public, to prove to people that I’m not gay. Even though in my heart I know that it’s not a bad thing. There’s still a piece of me that thinks that. And I hate that side of me.”
He continued, recalling how he’s constantly questioned by fans:
“I thought, ‘You f**king guys are so lucky I’m not actually gay and terrified of coming out.’ That’s something that kills people. That’s how sensitive it is. Do you like the songs? Do you like me? Who cares if I’m gay?”
Shawn also shared his thoughts about a video Taylor Swift shared of him (with his permission) donning sparkly eyeshadow:
“I felt sick. I was like, ‘F**k, why did let her post that?’. I just fed the fire that I’m terrified of.”
All in all, we believe letting your guard down is hot, no matter your sexuality!
