Shawn Mendes has learned a lot of lessons over the years — but none as resounding as the one he learned from being wrapped up in a love triangle.
The Stitches singer is the featured guest on John Mayer’s How’s Life show on SiriusXM this week, and he’s taking the opportunity to talk about where he may have gone wrong in his past relationships… Emphasis on the “s”! In a clip from Thursday’s episode, he seemingly addresses the love triangle he was involved in with Sabrina Carpenter and Camila Cabello — and how he once confessed to the former that he still had feelings for the latter! He recalls:
“So, I’m with someone. Two days before going to hang with my ex, [I] express I’m going to hang with my ex because I have unresolved feelings. Maybe instead of two days it could have been two weeks.”
YIKES! Ya think??

As we know, Shawn and Camila dated for two years before breaking up in 2021. And in 2023, he reportedly moved on with the Espresso singer. Publicly, he’s denied they were ever together, but fans aren’t dumb! Her lyrics speak for themselves! So anyway, around the time they were rumored to be together, he rekindled things with Camila… Remember when they were caught totally making out at Coachella?? Yeah! Does that not sound like the exact situation he’s describing?!
Later in the clip, John asks Shawn if there’s anywhere he feels he could have “played” things wrong, and the 26-year-old cryptically responds:
“None of those therapists know what it’s like to be a famous musician.”
After a joke about seeing your ex on a billboard, the Señorita singer reveals “the biggest lesson” he learned from it all:
“The biggest lesson I’ve learned is you don’t — no one gets out of this life without getting hurt, and no one gets out of this life without hurting someone.”
Sooo, is he saying that gave him a license to bounce between pop stars? The lesson he learned is life is messy why not be messy yourself? HA! Watch the full clip HERE.
