Colon cancer is the second leading cause of cancer deaths in the U.S. — but about 40% of people who should get colonoscopies don’t.
For many of them, it’s about the uncomfortable prepping where you basically drink a month’s worth of laxatives in one night or the fact that they cost $1,000 to $2,000.
While most doctors recommend a full colonoscopy, it is possible to do a sigmoidoscopy instead.
A sigmoidoscopy, let’s just call it a siggy, only looks at the lower third of the colon, but that’s where half of all cancers form.
Doctors still agree a full colonoscopy is better but they say people are more likely to get a siggy, and that test is better than no test.
A siggy also only costs about $150 to $300 and there’s less prep. Though they don’t knock you out for it.
So that could be a little uncomfortable for most.
Though again, it’s better than nothing!
