The Situation: 'I Found The Old Me Again'

Situation REhab New
Mike Sorrentino, better known as The Situation, is continually opening up about his drug problem and rehab — and we love it.
We love seeing him in a better place, aware of where he’s been and focused on not going back.
In a new interview with MTV, he talked about how he, one day, just changed from the old (and good) Mike… the Mike that loved the spotlight and would help anyone out… to a new, recluse, villain Mike.
He accepted it for a while, but then he realized that it was not him in the long run.
Here’s what he said:

“The real Mike is somebody who is a positive person, a generous person. A loyal person. Somebody that’s gonna help you if you call me up and say, ‘Mike, I got a flat tire.’ I’m there, you know? In the beginning of my career, everybody knew it, it was no secret that I loved the spotlight. I basked in it. And then all of a sudden, I turned into this person who was reclusive, or hiding.”

Mike explains, in no joking matter, that the signal to his friends and family that something was wrong was when he stopped working out:

“Once I stopped going to the gym the family started to immediately notice. They were like, ‘Why isn’t Mike going to the gym? Is he OK?’ At that time I didn’t mind. I figured somebody’s gotta be the villain. [But] I’m definitely not that person today for sure. I don’t have any animosity towards anybody.”

Luckily, he found help. He doesn’t have to be that villain anymore, and his fellow cast members know it — and he’s ready to get back to the show and get out there again as a changed man, without worry about his sobriety:

“During the last 80 days I’ve received an e-mail from Vinny, texts from Pauly, I think a text from Ronnie, text from Jenni. At the end of the day, all the kids care for each other. I’m sure some of them didn’t know how to handle it. Of course my family is concerned about my health, but at the same time they trust my judgment.
“Mike today? I wake every day these days with a smile. Happy to be alive. Happy to have the family that I have. Happy to have the fans that I have, the friends. Happy to be involved in the show … almost like a smell-the-roses moment. I’m happy where I’m at, man. I love what I do … I know where I am and I know where I’m gonna be and that’s all that counts.”

All of these things are wonderful to hear, and we’re hoping that all of them can be carried with you through the next season.
We say that because temptation is a horrible thing, and if you can remember how you feel now, sober, then we think you’ll be just fine.
Mike, we’re so glad you’re recovering!
