There’s more shake-up going on at AI!
Sony has lost the American Idol‘s music rights to Universal Music Group.
19 Entertainment and Idol creator Simon Fuller struck a deal with Universal saying:
“With Idol celebrating our 10th season I wanted to inject some new power and weight behind our brand. We have been quietly delivering hits relentlessly for 9 seasons and Lucian Grainge and Jimmy Iovine’s (Chairman, Interscope Geffen A&M) ambition, commitment, and determination to push the boundaries and go even further with Idol was very compelling. It is exciting to have the world├óΓé¼Γäós biggest show partnered with the world├óΓé¼Γäós biggest music company.├óΓé¼┬¥
AI has sold more music than any other TV show and has moved more than 100 million units in North America and 120 million songs on iTunes. It seems like Fuller wasn’t happy with the job Sony was doing to promote and handle such a powerhouse as American Idol.
Hmm, we wonder how many more changes are on the way…
