Yikes! Is this a little too soon?!
The producers of Deadliest Catch comes Coal, a docuseries about the dangers of coal mining in West Virginia, which will air on Spike TV.
Although the series has been in development for over a year, the rescue of the 33 Chilean miners has demonstrated how treacherous the job can be.
Spike’s executive vp of original programming, Sharon Levy, said:

├óΓé¼┼ôIt didn├óΓé¼Γäót take a tragedy, and then a miracle, to get us excited about this. Obviously, we├óΓé¼Γäóre humongous fans of the kind of shows Thom [Beers] does that celebrate the everyday man. He said, ├óΓé¼╦£We├óΓé¼Γäóre working on this project called Coal, and we said we├óΓé¼Γäód take it.’
We├óΓé¼Γäóve tapped into something that people are passionate about; this is a topic the world is interested in. Everybody is afraid of being buried alive. These people risk their lives every day to make the world move, yet most of us never really think about how we get [our energy] … this series is going to shine a light on the brave men and women and their families who endure the rigors of this arduous profession.
It’s incredibly difficult to shoot. What happened in Chile makes safety precautions even more important.”

The series will center on co-owners of Westchester’s Cobalt Mine, Mike Crowder and Tom Roberts. Not only will it cover every aspect of the job, but their families and the community of miners.
Spike will premiere 10 episodes of the one-hour show in April.
