The creators of the infamous Taco Bell chihuahua got $42 million richer!
An appeals court has ordered Taco Bell to pay the creative whiz kids that chunk of cash now.
Taco Bell and TBWA Chiat/Day, the people who handled the chihuahua advertising campaign, have been fighting about who should pay the chihuahua guys since 2003.
And, unfortunately for the Bell, the courts found in favor of the ad guys.
A Michigan jury in 2003 found that Irvine-based Taco Bell didn’t properly pay the dog’s creators when it launched its $500 million advertising blitz in the 1990s that popularized the phrase “├é┬íYo quiero Taco Bell!” After the verdict, Taco Bell blamed advertising agency TBWA Chiat/Day for stiffing the dog’s creators. Taco Bell sued the ad agency over responsibility for the $42 million judgment.
Sucks for the taco pushers!
