Well this is just all kinds of unfortunate!
Target isn’t usually one to offend their customers, but that’s what happened when they named the color of a plus-sized dress Manatee Gray.
The standard sizing had the exact same dress color, only it was listed as Dark Heather Gray.
One offended customer posted a pic of the dress, pointing out the injustice, and it started making the Internet rounds.
Target’s spokeswoman stated:
“We never want to offend any of our guests. We apologize for any discomfort that we may have caused … We are in the process of fixing the discrepancy and updating Target.com so the gray dress will be available in all styles … We’re working on updating our systems right now.”
Apparently, Manatee Gray is a color that they use for everything from towels to boots to shirts, but the people who updated the website didn’t confirm what color the other was using for the Missy and plus-sized lines.
While they’re sorting out the issue, Target took down the dress.
There are about 50 shades of gray they could have chosen to name their products. Maybe it’s time to retire the Manatee-inspired moniker.
