Did Jack Antonoff just reignite his decade-old beef with Katy Perry?
The Firework songstress accepted the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award at the 2024 MTV VMAs on Wednesday — and gave an unforgettable performance before doing so. Fans went nuts as she sang all her iconic hits, including her former rival Taylor Swift! But there was one person in the audience who wasn’t overly impressed: Tay’s pal and longtime producer!

In footage from Katy’s performance circulating around the web, Jack can be seen retreating behind his wife Margaret Qualley alongside Taylor, Suki Waterhouse, and Tyla while he lifts up his hands to place something in his ears. It’s not subtle.
Fans are split on whether it was AirPods or earplugs… But either way, the Bleachers frontman seemed to be making quite the statement: Katy’s music ain’t it! Fans are in agreement it was a disrespectful move! See (below):

The two, of course, have a long history of beef. Back in 2014, Jack called Katy’s music “throwaway” compared to Taylor’s. This isn’t even the first instance of him shading Katy at the VMAs! In 2017, he infamously ate a banana during her monologue seemingly to show just how bored he was. See (below):

Now, Katy and the Fortnight singer have their own share of drama, but being Tay Tay’s BFF, Jack has always stood behind her. Katy and Taylor have clearly moved on from the drama… We mean, it looked like the Midnights singer was having the time of her life dancing to the I Kissed a Girl singer’s hits! So why can’t Jack move on??
