A high school junior named Jewel Moore loves Disney movies!
But she’s always wondered why there weren’t any Disney princesses who looked more like her.
This idea prompted the high school junior from Farmville, Va. to create an online petition called Make Plus-Size Princesses in Disney Movies! where she hopes to gather enough signatures to make her dream of having a princess she can relate to a reality!
Well, her idea must’ve struck a nerve because at this time her petition has garnered over 19,000 signatures!!
Here’s what she wrote for her petition pitch:
“I made this petition because I’m a plus-size young woman, and I know many plus-size girls and women who struggle with confidence and need a positive plus-size character in the media. Studies show that a child’s confidence correlates greatly with how much representation they have in the media. It’s extremely difficult to find a positive representation of plus-size females in the media.”
Jewel believes that if Disney were to heed her wish – it could be a game changing moment! She wrote:
“It would be revolutionary for Disney to show support to a group of girls who are otherwise horrendously bullied by the media. It would make many young girls feel confident and worthy to see a strong character that looks like them.”
We absolutely agree with this brilliant teenager one hundred percent!!!
Changing the way a Disney princess looks could definitely improve many of its loyal viewers’ self esteem, and possibly stop a lot of bullying that’s going on.
Which is something we’ll always support!!
Click HERE to sign Jewel’s petition, and hopefully Disney will make her dream a reality!
