Oh No! Travis Kelce Slapped With Deadline To Tell Chiefs If He's Returning - And It's SO Soon!

So much for taking his time… Travis Kelce was just given a deadline to tell the Kansas City Chiefs whether or not he’ll be returning for another season of football, and it’s a lot sooner than he was likely hoping for!

According to a team source via the Athletic on Thursday, the Chiefs org has given the tight end until March 14 to make up his mind about his football career. They’re, of course, hoping he’ll continue on with the team — and if he does, there’s good money in it for him.

Per Over The Cap, Trav’s current contract runs into next season and includes an $11.5 million roster bonus, which is due on March 15. The NFL‘s free agency period starts on March 10 — meaning he could start shopping around for a new team, though that seems unlikely. He seems pretty committed to the Chiefs.

In his New Heights podcast this week after the devastating loss at the Super Bowl, the player revealed he’s on the fence about what to do, but expressed his extreme gratitude to his teammates and the crew BTS at the Chiefs. On his mindset, he candidly shared:

“I’m gonna take some time to figure it out. I think I owe it to my teammates that if I do come back, that it’s gonna be something that it’s a wholehearted decision, that I’m not half-assing it. That I’m fully here with them, and I think I could play. It’s just whether or not I’m motivated or it’s the best decision for me as a man, as a human, as a person, to take on all that responsibility.”

Hopefully, he gets some good rest in the next few days and a chance to move past the sting of the loss so he can make this decision with a clear head. Time is ticking!
