U.S. Travelers Lost $531,395 In Airport Change Bins & TSA Kept All The Dough!

tsa collected over half million dollars lost change at airports last year
We know this sounds like a whale of a tale tail, but bear with us because it’s true!
You know those crappy plastic buckets folks throw loose change into right before going through airport security? They’re actually a decent source of revenue! Many peeps are in such a rush that they forget to reclaim their coinage on the other side of the x-ray machines!!!
Believe it or not, airline passengers left behind a whopping $531,395 in domestic and foreign currency this year! It’s the highest total ever recorded!
Curious which airports saw travelers throwing away the most money?
Miami passengers were the worst offenders; they ditched $39,613 all by their lonesome. Travelers at Guam’s Antonio B. Won Pat International Airport, meanwhile, were much better behaved and only lost a grand total of $1.70.
The government obvs can’t just give the money back, so what do they do with the money? Free mani/pedis for every single TSA employee, perhaps? If only! The gov’t actually recycles the cash back into the agency’s budget!
One Republican Congressman recently introduced a bill which would require the TSA to donate all their found funds to charitable organizations, but organizing that effort would apparently cost way more than the $500K they found!!
Hmm, sounds like a head scratcher. So, what lesson can we take from all this?
Well, the delightful people of Guam are exceptionally talented at handling money!
Good for you, Guam! You go, Guam! (And none for Gretchen Wieners, bye.)
