Science is definitely turning the tide in our favor in the fight against breast cancer.
Studies have proven that not just one, but TWO different medicines significantly delay the time until women with very advanced cases get worse.
An experimental drug called pertuzumab delayed cancer from progressing for a median of 18 months when given with standard treatment, compared to just 12 months using other medications, an international study confirmed.
Another drug called everolimus — usually used in organ transplants, but now sold as Afinitor — kept breast cancer from worsening for a median of 7 months in women whose disease was progressing despite treatment with hormone-blocking drugs. Women receiving only hormonal medicine had just a 3-month delay.
Such good news and we know there will only be more in the future!
