Teen Mom's Tyler Baltierra Opens Up About Attempting Suicide When He Was 11 Years Old As He & Catelynn Are 'Riddled With Sadness' Following Miscarriage

Catelynn and Tyler Baltierra are focusing on their mental health.
While appearing on the podcast Voices for Change 2.0 over the weekend, the Teen Mom pair opened up about their individual battles with mental illness.
Catelynn, 26, revealed she was recently diagnosed with Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder following her recent miscarriage and struggle with suicidal thoughts and childhood trauma.

She explained:

“For me, it’s panic disorder, PTSD ├óΓé¼ΓÇ¥ I like to call myself a trauma survivor ├óΓé¼ΓÇ£ and it’s depression, but it’s co-occurring depression or something like that. It surprised me to know that I was diagnosed with PTSD. I was really shocked by it. but it makes a lot of sense too. That’s my newest diagnosis.”

Her husband’s battle with depression began when he was a young child, around when he was 11 years old and attempted to take his own life. He shared:

“That’s where I first started feeling depressed. And, obviously, my dad going in and out of prison all the time. At 11, though, that’s when I attempted suicide and failed. I was on anti-depressants a bit.”

The reality star went on:

“I’ve been diagnosed with depression here and there whenever I’ve gone back to therapy and whatnot. Recently, I went to a new place and based on a couple of sessions I had with them, they said, ├óΓé¼╦£Look, based off a snapshot of your symptoms, we think you may be on the bipolar spectrum as well.’ That was pretty shocking to figure out, but also it made a lot of sense back to when I was younger. It was weird. But getting back into therapy, I’ve been managing that stuff.”

In a new sneak peek of Teen Mom OG, we see Tyler visiting Catelynn in rehab alongside her parents and their daughter, Nova.
Tyler said of what Cateylnn is going through:

“I’ve never seen someone that scared in my life. This was happening at the same time I was going through all my mental shit. I was riddled with sadness, we both were, you know? But, unfortunately for Cate, every single pregnancy she’s had has had some form of trauma with it. Letting go of Carly, and with Nova having the post-partum, that miscarriage was the icing.”
